After a record-breaking snowfall, we never thought it would happen, but it finally did. Spring has arrived! How do I know? The singular crocus in the brown chaos that is my backyard told me so. For weeks, knowing that I'd have limited time to exercise the green thumb this season, I've been scared to walk outside.
I planted a set of Home Depot crocuses the first year I bought the Little Yellow House, and in the six years I've lived here, I've seen exactly two. This year's was an exceptional surprise. I thought for sure the heavy snowfall would totally screw up "spring" and send a death wish for early season bloomers. So imagine my surprise to see this purple blush poking out of the sickly yard. Jumped right out of the bed into the middle of the ugly matted grass.
So it's official. Spring is determined to put on a show, against all odds. My fingers are already fidgeting for the garden gloves....
